This week we stop in Jefferson City Missouri to chat with Prison Brews brewer Rod Dothage. In addition to their prison theme, Prison Brews boasts the only wood fired pizza oven in Jefferson City, and offers Bocce tournaments (pronounced BOW-chee in this region of the country). Later we take a hard hat tour of the former Missouri State Penitentiary where plans are underway to stabilize and install a museum in at least one of the structures that once comprised “the bloodiest 47 acres in America.”

This week we sit down with Brian Lock, president of Santa Fe Brewing Company. Santa Fe Brewing is New Mexico’s oldest brewery, and they are one of only a handful across the U.S. to bottle condition their beers. Later we swing by Old Santa Fe.
This week we sit down with Schlafly’s Dan Kopman (who had just returned from vacation) to discuss the process and vision behind founding the first brewpub in Missouri since Prohibition. Afterward we take a stroll around the Missouri Botanical Garden.

You may remember that Travel by the Pint featured Joe in Season 1, Episodes 3 and 4. The recipe is for The Magician Ale, described on the Short’s website as “A lustrous dark red London ale”.
