American craft beer on the rise in China?

According to The Wall Street Journal’s blog, the number of American-style microbreweries in Beijing has recently doubled. That’s right. There are now two: Great Leap Brewing and Slow Boat Brewing (I love the name). Sarcasm aside, could this be the start of a trend in China? The WSJ blog article says, “there’s a growing and largely untapped market in China’s capital as disposable income rises and beer-swilling residents clamor for more variety at the pub.”

Slate.com has an article on beer sommeliers and “why beer deserves the same kind of expertise as wine.”

The NY Daily News (among others) reports that beer may be coming to a White Castle near you. But, for now at least, only if you live near Lafayette, Indiana. Perhaps Starbucks is next? (via Business Insider)
