Born in this repurposed rail car in Arnaudville, Louisiana, Bayou Teche Brewing is the subject our latest interview on Travel by the Pint. We spend a morning with founder and brewmaster Karlos Knott, as he discusses how he developed each recipe, and how his beer honors his grandfather. Check it out here.

According to The Wall Street Journal’s blog, the number of American-style microbreweries in Beijing has recently doubled. That’s right. There are now two: Great Leap Brewing and Slow Boat Brewing (I love the name). Sarcasm aside, could this be the start of a trend in China? The WSJ blog article says, “there’s a growing and largely untapped market in China’s capital as disposable income rises and beer-swilling residents clamor for more variety at the pub.”

According to a release on PR Newswire, Abita beer will soon be available in cans, beginning with three of their flagships: Amber, Jockamo IPA and Purple Haze. And, if you missed it, check out Travel by the Pint’s recent episode featuring Abita.

Talk about your brewery tours — this one may take the cake! In the hop-growing region of Hallertau in the German state of Bavaria you’ll find the wonderland-like Kuchlbauer brewery. Thanks to Boing Boing we can visit virtually but I have a feeling that it’s nothing like being there. There’s more on the Kuchlbauer website.
